1201 Eye St 12th Floor Modifications, Washington, DC
This project consisted of the structural renovation to the 12th floor, for the purposes of removing two existing concrete columns and adding steel support to create a larger open floor plan. This entailed installing over 20 tons of new steel beams and collar ties. Critical layout was required to allow bolting of the collar ties to what remained of the existing columns when completed. Steel beams were over 40’ long and were lifted 12 stories into the building through window openings. Detailed coordination ensured that the structural integrity of the building’s envelope remained sound during the alterations of the top floor.
